IMC
Licensing Announces Representation of Burpee
LOUISVILLE, KY –
IMC Licensing,
the
nation’s leading licensing agency specializing in consumer
product brands, announced
today that it has entered into a representation
agreement with
W. Atlee Burpee Company,
the largest supplier of seeds to home gardeners in the
United States. IMC Licensing is
developing a strategic licensing plan and a portfolio of
exciting, new licensed products to expand upon the BurpeeŽ
brand’s reputation for quality, home-grown vegetables.
Seed seller to the home gardener since 1876, today the
company cultivates and distributes fruit, flower, herb and
vegetable seeds and plants for sale through retail partners,
directly through catalogs and online at Burpee.com. Shipping
more than 100 million seed packets a year, the company is
the largest supplier of seeds to home gardeners in the
nation while also selling plants and gardening accessories.
The scion of a family of seedsman and current CEO, George
Ball has owned Burpee since 1991.
According to Cara Bernosky, IMC Licensing president and
co-founder, “With Burpee’s reputation as the undisputed
leader in seeds known for resulting in the highest quality
garden-grown products coupled with the consumer trend
towards natural, fresh and healthy products, we see great
opportunity in expanding the Burpee brand into fresh, frozen
and canned fruit and vegetables. Many consumers recognize
the quality products that Burpee seeds produce and would
welcome the convenience of buying ready-to-eat Burpee
product at their grocery.”
“This year, vegetable seed and plant sales have increased
substantially,” added Hans Miller, vice president & CFO of
Burpee. “Marketing surveys show that people are concerned
about processed foods and the “carbon footprint” of products
in their grocery aisles and as a result, consumers are
turning to fresh produce, locally produced products and
growing more of their own food. Burpee’s products and
reputation are ideal to lead this growing trend.”
Burpee is known for being the first modern seed company to
focus on research and quality while also creating
break-through new seed varieties including Iceberg Lettuce,
Stringless Green Beans and Bush Lima Beans. Today current
Burpee customers range from Wal-Mart to small garden
centers.
