Food Marketing Institute (FMI) –
May 4-7, 2008
IMC recently attended FMI and
made the following observations:
Brand
Highlights
-
KRAFT
introduced over 80 new products in several categories
including health & wellness, accessible snacks, premium
taste, and quick & easy meals. A few items that were
featured: Kraft Bagel-fuls Filled Bagels, Kraft Macaroni &
Cheese Crackers, and LiveActive Cereals, Drink Mixes and
Bars. -
CAMPBELL SOUP COMPANY marries two core brands together in
Campbell’s soups and V8. Five flavors of these pureed soups
were debuted: Golden Butternut Squash, Garden Broccoli,
Southwestern Corn, Sweet Red Pepper and Tomato Herb. Each
bowl of soup provides a full serving of vegetables and
contains no artificial flavors or preservatives.
New
Products
Jel-Sert introduces OREO and CHIPS AHOY! Sipaah Straws, so you can now flavor
your milk to taste like your favorite cookie. One of their other new products
was DIET SNAPPLE water flavoring sticks.
Advanced
Food Product is now offering a JELLY BELLY pudding snack in
flavors like buttered popcorn, bubble gum, watermelon, etc.
Licensing Trends and Thoughts
Disney had a large presence with the food licensing partners including
Birchwood Foods with their Mickey Burgers, Raisins by National Raisin
Company, and Stremick’s Heritage Foods lowfat and reduced fat milk featuring
Little Einsteins.
Other Comments
There seems to be a trend focusing on consumer health and wellness. Look for
more product introductions to be lower in fat or sodium, containing
probiotics, and being natural and organic.
