SHOT Show (Shooting Hunting Outdoor
Trade Show)
IMC recently attended the show and while walking the aisles
noticed the following:
Brand Highlights
- Ruger unveiled a
concept – Ruger Ram Full-Size pickup truck. It was
a really sharp expression of their brand in “Ruger
Red” with Sturm Ruger branded appointments that captured
a lot of attention.
- Remington debuted
several new licensed products at the show. One of the standouts,
in keeping with industry trends, was a line of “Quiet
Fabric” camo back packs, bags, pouches and other related
products.
- Smith & Wesson
showed an impressive line up of mountain bikes produced
by Cycle Source Group for the premium market.
New Products on Show
- New DeWalt Footwear,
Gloves, Eye and Hearing Protection stood out at the show
both because it was not a hunting/shooting brand and because
of the striking Black and Yellow colors against the backdrop
of everyone else’s camo patters.
- New Browning camping
products included the addition of a new line of backpacks
featuring Mossy Oak break up pattern and the Browning Buckmark
Logo to last year’s introduction of sleeping bags,
tents and other camping gear.
- Browning also introduced
a new co-branded ATV jointly developed with Polaris Industries.
- Gerber has also entered
into the pack business this year for the first time. The
new pack includes a new patent pending “Liquifusion”
hydration system and comes in camo patterns for the hunting
enthusiast.
Licensing Trends and Thoughts
- Everyone at the show
seemed to be either adding packs to their line-ups or adding/expanding
casual and soft shell apparel lines.
- Columbia’s fall
2006 hunting collection features all new proprietary camo
patterns including Timberwolf, a new dark woods pattern.
- Realtree has created
a new ladies and youth signature line available in orange
and hot pink with Realtree hardwoods camo trim and embroidered
logos.
- Wolverine, the venerable
footwear brand, has introduced a new line of work wear and
casual apparel.
- Mossy Oak Elements
has introduced a new line of casual apparel for camping,
fishing, hiking and home. The line includes shorts, khakis
and other non-camo casual apparel, some with camo accents.
- Leatherman the maker
of its namesake multi-tool has introduced a line of folding
knives, expanding the brand beyond the multi-tool category.
