High Point Furniture Market – April

7-13, 2008

IMC recently attended the High Point Furniture Market and made the following observations:

Brand Highlights
  • Martha Stewart created a huge buzz throughout the market, not only as a keynote speaker, but with her launch of new home accessories ranging from lighting, rugs, and furniture, all mix and matchable.

  • Wrangler Home's contemporary Series 47 collection debuted; as well as added new lighting and furniture to their traditional Coming Home collection.  Keeping the current economy in mind, these collections offer inexpensive solutions to consumers to update their homes.

Licensing Trends and Thoughts

A more “casual” lifestyle was the reoccurring trend at the High Point Market.  Furniture and home décor companies are taking a more youthful approach with contemporary designs and functional furniture.  While these vendors still offer traditional styles, they are not as prominent as in previous years.

It was apparent from the many conversations with manufacturers in High Point that the effects of the housing slump are impacting the furniture market.  However, furniture companies remain optimistic that consumers will continue to upgrade their home furnishings even if they aren’t purchasing homes at the same pace.
