International Dairy, Deli, Bakery Association Show  –

June 1-3, 2008

IMC recently attended the International Dairy, Deli, Bakery Association Show and made the following observations:

Overview

The deli-dairy-bakery show brought together over 7,500 attendees and 1,500 exhibitors. This was the first time the show has been in New Orleans since 1999. Celebrity chefs Emeril Lagasse and Paula Deen were keynote speakers at the show.

Brand Highlights
  • Uncle Wally’s announced their licensing partnership with General Mills on a Fiber One muffin that will be coming to market in Fall 2008.

  • B.C. Bundt featured their Jelly Belly, 7-Up, Dr. Pepper, Orange Crush, and Hawaiian Punch crème cakes.

New Products

Jel-Sert introduces OREO and CHIPS AHOY! Sipaah Straws, so you can now flavor your milk to taste like your favorite cookie. One of their other new products was DIET SNAPPLE water flavoring sticks.

Advanced Food Product is now offering a JELLY BELLY pudding snack in flavors like buttered popcorn, bubble gum, watermelon, etc.

Licensing Trends and Thoughts

Cake decorating products had a large display of licensed properties. Bakery Crafts introduced Batman The Dark Knight and included others such as American Idol, Bratz, and Crayola. Decopac highlighted Dora the Explorer, Spiderman, Shrek, among others.

There is a lot of room for licensing within the deli, dairy, and bakery categories.
