MAGIC Apparel –

IMC recently attended the
MAGIC apparel show and made the following observations:
Brand
Highlights
-
Mighty
Fine is making everyone a hero with their current campaign,
“You’re My Hero!” The idea is that each character and brand
with each collection is a hero to someone. All designs will
celebrate the super heroes we all grew up with—Superman, The
Hulk, as well as some comic book characters, and pop culture
icons such as Hello Kitty and David Bowie.
New
Products
Indian Motorcycle Co. aims to capitalize on its vintage heritage by licensing
Iconic American Brands LLC for a line of apparel. Indian launched its apparel
line that includes leather outerwear, including motorcycle, bomber, and European
touring styles, sweaters, wovens, denim, and cargo pants. New products expect
to hit retail in May 2008 throughout upstairs department stores and Indian’s
dealer network.
Licensing Trends and Thoughts
Auto brands are currently trending down as retailers are hungry for brands
that have an eco-friendly equity. Specialty t-shirt manufacturing companies
stated retailers are seeking eco-friendly brands along with unbleached
organic cottons and toxin-free inks. Catchy slogans capitalize on this
trend as well. Mighty Fine’s new well-received Public Library’s t-shirt
slogans include “Recycle If you Love Me” and “Free to be Green.”
Other Comments
As with all the other industries, the apparel industry is not immune to the
weak economy and reluctant buyers. Fall of 2007 was flat at retail due to
the almost non-existent fall weather. Cold weather apparel items will take
backseat to lighter weight fabric apparel that can be used for layering.
