Magic Apparel –
August 25-27, 2008
IMC recently attended the MAGIC
Apparel show and
made the following observations:
Brand
Highlights
-
Jerry
Leigh has partnered with the Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic
Couture collection to develop a line of lounge and
sleepwear. This line showcased Jerry Leigh’s product depth
since most people know them mainly for they’re junior
clothing lines. Jerry Leigh also has licenses with Abby
Dawn by Avril Lagine, Harajuku Lovers by Gwen Stefani, Paul
Frank, and Disney Classic Characters.
New
Products
Warner Bros. Consumer products had a large presence at MAGIC unveiling their
Supergirl and Wonder Women clothing lines. The Wonder Women line was designed
by Diane Von Furstenburg and it included dresses, small leather goods, and
footwear. The Supergirl clothing line was designed by New York designers Alice
Roi, Laura Poretzky, and Shoshanna Gruss.
Licensing Trends and Thoughts
A
strong trend at MAGIC continued to be the eco-friendly clothing. In fact,
this year MAGIC debuted the ECOllection which showcased over 100 brands in
the sustainability sector. These apparel lines used organic materials and
were toxin free to appeal to the environmental conscience consumer trend.
Other Comments
Attendance at MAGIC seemed to have decreased quite dramatically. This show
in the past has been four days, and this time it was cut to just three with
lower attendance. Some companies felt that the reason the attendance was
lower was because many buyers had already made their buying decisions.
