National Association of Convenience Stores Tradeshow (NACS) –

November 6-9, 2007

IMC recently attended the NACS tradeshow and made the following observations:

Brand Highlights
  • Disney wants to dominate the quick stop too. From new offerings in food & beverage to fragrance and cosmetics, they are available the next time you fuel up (or top off in the UK).

  • Unilever offers up a lot of variety in its single serve category. Along with the familiar Klondike and Good Humor nameplates, you can also find Lifesaver Popsicles and Breyers’ Mrs. Fields cookie sandwiches.

New Products on Show

  • Dozens of new energy drinks hope to capture the hearts and dollars of the young males in the still burgeoning market, including branded offerings from Hooters and Duff (Homer Simpson’s favorite other beverage brand).

  • A-B featured its Budweiser and Bud Light collaboration with Clamato called Chelada. Clam and tomato juices plus beer? Have a couple and you will really wish you had a V8.

  • And for pure ingenuity, the Water Bottle Nipple Adaptor from BabySport gets my vote. Turn any standard water bottle into a baby bottle when out and about!

Licensing Trends and Thoughts

  • Brands continue to penetrate the foodservice offerings at your favorite convenience store. Pierre Foods delivers Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sandwiches, including the Rowdie Rib™ Sandwich with Sweet Baby Ray's® Sauce.

  • YoCream International offers multiple lines of licensed frozen yogurts and beverages utilizing flavor profiles from companies like Jolly Rancher and Jarritos. With the average male c-store shopper making nearly 14 visits a week, look for many more brands to make their presence known in this channel!
