SEMA and AAPEX –

November 4-7, 2007

IMC recently attended the SEMA and AAPEX tradeshow and made the following observations:

Brand Highlights
  • The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company supported its licensees in one booth at SEMA.  It recently announced that it will broaden its licensing presence at retail with the first-ever freestanding product kiosks at 65 Goodyear Auto Service Centers and 118 Just Tires locations across the United States. The new kiosks will include products from their 60 licensees.

New Products on Show

  • There was a new “Green Zone” at the show this year since being green has moved from a trend to being top-of-mind with consumers.  Consumers are being more environmentally responsible from the products they buy and the companies they buy from.  Companies that showcased in this special area featured products that help consumers make their vehicles more efficient and environmentally friendly.  Also included were companies that offer tools and equipment to service hybrid vehicles.  Since recycling is a green initiative, there were suppliers who recycle waste or remanufacture parts.   Cardone Industries, who was featured in the Green Zone, is an automotive parts remanufacturer.  In 2006, Cardone not only manufactured 55,000 tons of discarded or non-usable auto parts, but also recycled 14,609 tons of cardboard into new paper products; 2,852 tons of municipal trash into energy; and 70,000 gallons of waste oil into furnance fuel.

Licensing Trends and Thoughts

  • It will be interesting to see how licensing can play into the “Green Zone” for automotive products that are kind to our environment.
