Winter Fancy Food Show –
Jan 13-15, 2008
IMC recently attended the
winter Fancy Food Show and made the following observations:
Show Overview
The show brought together
80,000 foods, 16,000 attendees and 1100 exhibitors. The Natural & Organic
Pavilion made its first appearance in the West, with nearly 200 exhibitors.
New
Products
Flavored/enhanced waters were among the hottest category for new products.
Talking Rain, Hint Water,Valais, Function Water, Ferrarelle, and Tasmanian Rain
among many
others all introduced themselves or new flavors to the U.S. market.
Heart
Healthy options are appearing in several places. Corazonas Foods
introduced heart healthy chips and Lehi Roller Mills a heart healthy
pancake.
Licensing Trends and Thoughts
Chefs continue to make their way from TV into specialty food retailers.
Paula Deen and Smithfield Foods continue to expand their relationship
with the addition of the Paula Deen Collection through the Peanut
Shoppe of Williamsburg. Ina Garten found a partner in Stonewall Kitchen,
which featured many of the products from the Barefoot Contessa
Pantry line.
